The Internet’s Next Step
Two years ago you could surprise someone by saying you checked Facebook updates before email. A year ago, bypassing your live tv (or DVR) by using Netflix or Hulu to catch up on TV shows was considered cutting edge.
Now there’s news that the single biggest source of Internet traffic in North America is Netflix. And, in Latin America, Facebook has become a bigger source of traffic than YouTube. For content providers of all types, that should be set off some bells.
Sure, the bandwidth required to push movies and tv shows has a lot to do with Netflix stat, but it does show that customers have taken that next step in viewing habits.
This is more than just a question of whether the Internet will kill cable tv, or if Facebook is your new email, this is a question of whether you’re prepared to reach your customer.
