Twitter “Comes Of Age”
Much of the buzz online regarding the death of Osama Bin Laden is how Twitter has “come of age” in the news world. More than just a social media tool, it was how many people either learned of the news, and/or found news sources that provided the detail.
IT consultant Sohaib Athar, a.k.a. @ReallyVirtual, became part of the story when it was realized that what he was tweeting as an observation, was actually the raid in which terrorist Osama bin Laden was killed Sunday.
As when there is memorable news of any type, this will be a banner day for the traditional media. Many people will save the newspaper with giant headlines and pictures. Viewership for TV news will be higher than any normal broadcast.
But for many in the digital community, this will be remembered as the day Twitter grew up.
